For my Best Friend

I have been in a slump with my art last couple of weeks. I have just been really tired and I got stuck on a certain part of a canvas and just walked away for awhile.
The picture below is a canvas I made today for my best friend in California. She just had cancer removed from her breast and got good news that they got it all. She has been so stressed out and also so very brave through all of this.
Being a cancer survivor myself, I wanted her to know how brave and beautiful I think she is.
I had already prepared the canvas for something else but decided to use it today. I got inspiration from Marah Johnson's lates video on the wood paper butterfly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7iLMLT2y3g&feature=feedu
I made the paper that I used for the back and front of the butterfly out of coffee filters and diluted acrylic paints...I then stamped it with black staz on and one of my favorite stamps. The top butterfly is only glued in the center so the wings move, and on the paper under the butterfly is a transparent glitter so if there is a breeze the wings will flutter and glitter underneath...
I doodled all over the canvas and wrote little messages for her in the flourishes...
I know she will love it.

  1. What a great canvas, your friend will really appreciate it. I love the fact we can use the techniques from our She Art class to use on other things. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such lovely comments:)
